To Go or to Stay?

Finally, I got the results from UP Diliman’s CMC. It said I haven’t qualified for the application for transfer. I applied for BA Film and Audiovisual Communication. Maybe it was not for me. I really felt sad about it. I got my visions of being a filmmaker or maybe anybody in the field. I felt sad really sad. I was just qualified for BA Sociology because of my grades. My GPA was 1.72 that maybe helped me qualify. I had the predicament of taking it up and finally transferring to Diliman; or going back to UP Baguio. It was hard to decide. If I go back I’d be back to my course which I like (BA Communication Arts [Maj. in Journ/Min in BroadComm]) but I’d be wasting all my efforts I made for transferring and might regret the decision one day. Well, goodbye Film. I don’t know if will be getting a good career out of BA Sociology – mean a very financially rewarding career but I could make things work out. I believe I can be put on any situation. ‘Malay mo’ I will be thanking that all of these had happened – that I came to BA Sociology. It's complicated.

The Da Vinci Code Issue is ‘So Yesterday’

"You asked what would be worth killing for. Witness the biggest cover-up in human history."
- from The Da Vinci Code motion piture

I think banning 'Da Vinci' is a form of a cover up... the church and devout Christians’ actions upon the film justifies it.

The film was actually a fiction, as many people are saying these days. The film may bear controversial facts about Jesus that some people doubt that were verifiable. The fact is, the book is actually said to be poorly researched. The book claims that the places and people in the story were based on reality. Some people in the devout Chritian Nation from the US released a documentary, which analyzed and exposed some inaccuracies in the novel. Personally, I am convinced that the novel was fiction but people criticize details on the story which were claimed by Dan Brown to be factual which people doubt.

When it comes to the motion picture adaptation of the movie (self-titled), banning it on the mainstream cinemas is I think a bit of an over-reaction. Even in the first place rating it unfairly as R18 is I think an action of a desperate hypocrite. In most countries populated by almost Roman Catholic, like France, US, UK, etc., the film was rated at least R14. They say the film would be even more appropriate for children. Moreover, how about academics – people who work for knowledge? For me, in my point of view, it is a form of media repression. They want to cover up the film, which actually do not directly attack the faith but history – considering it is fiction.

What I want to pursue here is that the issue of the Da Vinci Code film is a outdated and not timely to discuss encourage strict censorship. It is because more people have already read the book for a few years from the present. If it really takes offense on the religion, why not ban the book. This is not the time to talk about this and be strict about it. It is really a very OA, Over-reacting (or whatever we may call it) issue to debate about on this time. People are aware of the Novel. They are not stupid to believe everything they see. The issue had already gone a long way and it is not right for the Filipinos to be divided because some hate it. The novel was praised because of its art to weave events together to form a clever story rather to attack religion. People did not want it to be read or to be viewed on screens just because they hate the Christians or the church. It is the talent and courage of the writer or filmmakers, which is taken significance here, not religion. Some people are just too shallow-minded. Come on. Banning films is so desperate… cheap. Anyway, banning it will cause the film to be over-talked-about and will heighten curiosity among people who actually never did plan to watch the film. Weird. Lame.

I understand that it might bring a negative icon to the church for the populace and young viewers of the country. Why is the church afraid? Would Filipino Christians sell their faith for two and a half hours? What happened to their job to ensure their people have good faith of the religion they are proclaiming? Did they fail to do the job? If only they assure that people will not turn back on the faith after the film, the church and devout Christians would not be acting crazy on the issue. It just proves that we have many hypocrite brothers. People do not allow themselves to see daemons can never distinguish one from the not. Being good and holy doesn’t mean you avert doubt or having reservations on the faith. Come on! Faith is faith. Religion is religion. Should religion and the church always come our way? I suggest instead of banning anti-Christ films or media, why not focus on doing their job effectively so that wherever their people can be, a film same as the Da Vinci Code will not bother them so bad.

Stuck at home

Since I have got hove for the semestral break, I have been stuck at home. The only thing that I could do is to watch TV, eat, play PC games, browse the web and sleep and nothing more. I don't believe that anyone can be happy without money. It a real pain when you don't have cash honestly. You are stuck to the things that are in your routine. No excitement, no adventure. Well at least I am lucky enough to go home for this break instead of staying in Baguio for the whole vacation. Otherwise money would be my problem. I might not have the cash to spend for so that I would have something to do before I go crazy staring at wall. My point is, you can not deny the fact the humans are natural to be materialistic. Am I making sense?

Today I woke up late... Listened to some music and now I'm trying to get my essay done.... That's all.

I had been very frustrated about my grades. We had just received our report cards and I wasn't very happy about the figures written on that card. I felt envious of some who got very high. But I felt very sad when I saw some most of the people who were easy-go-lucky but they had very high grades that they don't deserve. Its really unfair. And I feel very hopeless that I might not pass any entrance test. Some were very lucky. I heard that some of my classmates had passed the University of Santo Tomas. Their courses were chemical engineering, electronics and communications eng., philosophy etc. I was very tired. Very frustrated. Trying to find a better day... I hope. I hope I will be successful someday. bye.

This day had been a day of scapism. We, my classmakes and I, cleaned our classroom. And in the afternoon, we did not attend our classes though we should had attended because we decided not to and just go for a swim. We went to Bacon beach! We hang out for few hours. I was late to arrive there because I was told to do somthing at home. Duty calls! Well that's it. The only dunny feeling I felt today was the excitement of having our own vacation and guess what, I had nothing to do with lying to our teachers because I first thought that there would be a "legal" declaration of "no classes". And I was surprised to nkow that tomorrow would be busy day for my classmates, who thought of such idea of scaping from classes, to explain thier scripted and well weaved lies and reasons which will actually be bought by our teachers specially "Ms. or Mr" Fulleros. What a day. I am just very excited about the fiesta just days from now. I am just waiting for tomorrow's classes to end so that I would have no worries. That's all!!!!

I arrived at school at 8:30 AM. I expected to be excused from classes because I was one of the students who would represent the Sorsogon City Division for the Regional Sci-Math Competitions in Ligao City. I actually did not win as the champion in the division level. I just won second place. I really did not expect such things to happen since I am not in section one. Now enough of that! I just hang around and reviewed some important things in physics (pero hindi ko kinakareer). Others were busy doing their games, puzzles and devices --as entries for the events in the competition. I was shocked when Carla said that I should be preparing the requirements for the Regional STEP Skills Competition because if would not do so I will be disqualified for the Regionals next next week. So I hurriedly asked for Mrs. Rodriquez's help. It was a good thing that she was a "maasikaso" and a concerned adviser. Mr. Lanuza (web page design coach) and I wasn't aware because we left the closing program early and haven't been informed about the subject. A went home early and went back with my things for the 3-day event. I just asked for a desperate favor to Beta to help me on my problem. It was a hot afternoon. We actually left the school at 2:45 PM We arrived in Ligao West Central School at about 4 PM. We unloaded our things and went into our rooms. The Sorsogon City Division was give 4 rooms. In the evening we went out for dinner to Quick and Hearty, because there were not Jollibee or McDonalds. After that we went to bed. We were awake till 3 AM because we sang and sang for hours, laughing, and making noise.

Today, we had the SNHS science fair. I am a contestant in the science quiz. I didn't prepare a puzzle so will not be getting 95% for my project. Well, it was a little hard but I tried my best. We had no subjects in the afternoon except for Values Ed. There was an earthquake, a stong one. According to the news it reached intensity 5. After that I got good news. I am the 2nd placer in the quiz. Well expect the 1st... kim patria, as usual.

Today, I am very busy with the story I was making for the Filipino subject because it is a must to have a grade that would not destroy my parents brains. So I was very busy. I was having as good time doing the work because I enjoy story making. It was a story about two bestfriends yadayadayada.... Whatever. So, I made it computerized. It was 4 pages long. I was discouraged to rewrite it because it was very lengthy. I passed it computerized. I did not make any journal entries because I am very lazy. I expected that on this day I would pass the journal for Mrs. Lagata to check. I was mistaken. She did not went to our room because she was busy on the preparation on her contest that she would coach. Godlike for her. In the afternoon, I attended all subjects as usual because I do not cut classes like everybody does. We had the chemistry class with Mrs. Domasig. It was not that boring. I expected that Nicole and Anrelyn were going to Creative to surf or chat but they did not come. I am now sitting all alone in the cafe with people I don't know though I knew few of them. So sorry if I update this blog few times in a month. Sorry for the readers if there is any. Happy evening!!! to me!!!

Tuesday, September 30, 2003

In the morning, we had a parade as a celebration for the Family Week in SNHS. I arrived late because I was very lazy to get up on bed. When I went there the parade already started. In the afternoon I attended the program for the said event. We ate a lot. After that we had a small party. A loud one but with few people. Happy day!!!!

Saturday, September 27, 2003

Today is the first day of my school's intramurals. I woke up late. I went to school for the parade as a part of in the activities of the intramurals. It was a hot morning. I was very exhausted during and after the parade. I just waited for nothing while trying to rest. I went home and eat my launch. I thought I will have a fever because I was wet when I got home because it rain so hard after the hot morning. I then came back to school. I didn't have anything in mind of what to do. After a while we went to Click and Call to web surf or anything we want to do. This is now the time when I am writing a blog entry-- this blog entry. I hope I will be happy for the rest of the day.

Friday, September 26, 2003

This day was exhausting. I went to school late as usual. I was expecting that this day would be very vacant but I was surprised when I knew that I will present my proposal of my scince project to the judges.
At last it ended. I was very relieved when I actually fininshed reporting. I did not go to school in the afternoon becasue I Mrs. Domasig, my class adviser announced a meeting for the parents. Mother went there to claim my report card. I just surfed the web for the rest of the day.

Wednesday, September 24, 2003

Today is Wednesday and I woke up late, about seven. I was expecting that we will have a parade for the intramurals. It was no big because I was not late when I arrived at school because we did not have a lessons in some of our subjects. We just waited and talked all morning. We had a session on Mrs. Carvajal's class. We had a very difficult test. It was exhausting. I hated it like I hated it. In the afternoon I, with my classmate went to the Sorsogon Provincial Gymnasium to watch the school level of the Bb. at Ginooong Palaro and also to support our classmate Dyan Duazo. After that we went to the Bowling House. I did not agree to go there becasue as I and other people know that I hate sports. I just went in to a internet cafe. This is the time when I am writing this blog entry. I hope we eat fishball!!!
